Our girl Jude reviews the first of our new range of cycling jackets… The Altura waterproof Flite jacket £69.99
Apparently, on average, it rains one in every three days in the UK. If you are an all year round, all weather cyclist it sometimes feels like you are in a constant state of drying. I religiously check two separate weather apps on my phone, you know, just to be sure. I don’t hate getting epically rained on but I hate being unprepared and starting my working day standing under the hand dryers in my underwear blasting hot air into my soggy shoes.
Enter the Altura Women’s Flite Cycling Jacket, a great emergency protective shell perfect for carrying in your bag and whipping out as and when. When I hear ‘cycling jacket’ visions of retina burning hi vis spring to mind. The jacket comes in pillar-box red or black with pink accents that makes a nice change.
There is no danger of trench bum with this one, the elasticated dropped tail fits over you bum so it won’t ride up. Perfect if you ride a racer. The elasticated cuffs have thumb loops to keep them down too.
Style: A simple, sporty, easy to wear protective layer.
Wearable off a bike? This is an undeniably bikey jacket with its dropped tail and back pocket. It makes a great companion for long rides as well as an everyday piece to whip out and zip up over an outfit as a protective layer. You could easily take it to festivals to protect your outfits.
Waterproofness: The ultra light, waterproof, breathable fabric and reinforced seams make it about as watertight as you can get.
Washability: Machine washable at 30 but as it’s 100% nylon, you could get away with just giving it a wipe down.
Warmness: Lightweight and windproof so if you layer up underneath the heat will stay in.
Visibility: Has reflective detailing on the back and on the zip. The red version is pretty unmissable.
Is it easy to stash away? Yes, it scrunches down into its back pocket like an old-school pack a mac. It’s quick drying so it won’t drench the inside of your bag.
Just so you know, they say July and August are the wettest months in the UK so we are over the worst. Apparently.
