As soon as we saw the Riding Hood Parka Cape, we new it was a little bit special. Designed in London and made here in the UK, this Parka not only has the style element down but is a truly ethically produced garment. We started selling them in autumn last year and they were an instant hit and now spring is here (the optimum time of year for cape wearing) there should be no stopping these babies…
Our girl Jude took one for a spin and tells us how how it measures up…
It is often said that riding a bike is the closest humans get to flying. In my head, when I wear a cape I look like Wonder Woman. In reality I look like a tourist at Niagara Falls.
I’m 5’3” so ‘one size fits all’ capes tend to flood me. This Riding Hood cape is a different story because it is half parka. Poppers on the sides and sleeves turn it from a cape into a more traditional shaped jacket. Leather toggles made from recycled cutoffs pull in the waist and tighten the hood making it flattering and fitted.
This is ideal if you are partial to a chunky knit jumper that can often be hard to squeeze into jackets and even harder if you want the luxury of being able to bend your arms.
You can easily hold it over your handlebars to keep your legs dry thanks to the added strips of fabric inside the cape under the pockets. Thus eliminating the cyclists’ hazard of dreaded trench thigh.
The hood has a slight peak so provides great shelter and can even fit over a helmet.
Once you get inside, in true superhero style, you can unzip it and reveal your true identity underneath. Thanks to this cycling cape it will be dry and mud splatter free.
Style: The genetically blessed love child of a cape and a parka.
Wearable off a bike? Yes, it’s a great, versatile rainy day piece.
Waterproofness: Its high tech micro fabric is water soil and oil repellent.
Warmness: Wind proof and thermal retaining. The fabric is thin but you can fit lots of layers underneath.
Washability: Machine washable at 40.
Visibility: A contrasting coloured reflective stripe down the back and on the cuffs.
Is it easy to stash away? Yes, very lightweight and packable and comes with a cute little canvas bag.
This is the greatest cape for a great escape on a bike!
