Why you cycle and how it benefits you? I cycle because two wheels have been my main form of transport for as long as I can remember! I grew up in London and got my first racing bike at the age of eight. I lived in Kingston then and used to go out first thing in the morning and come back when it was dark. I’d while away hours and hours riding around Richmond Park. Back then, there were hardly any cars in London compared to now. All the kids used to ride their bikes on the streets in the 70s. Kids in this city don’t have that same freedom today, sadly. Now I’m a parent, I’m determined that my son, 4, will love being on two wheels just as much as I do. He’s already been cycling a pedal bike for the best part of a year. And I’m proud as punch.
For me personally, cycling has taken me places I never thought I’d see. I’ve cycled across the Netherlands, in Lanzarote, Copenhagen and Amsterdam. I’ve also cycled to loads of amazing spots across the UK, like Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, the Lake District, Isle of Wight and Norfolk. But my favourite place to ride a bike is north west Scotland, where I dream of living one day. Nothing beats the blissful solitude, nature and clean air – not something you get in London. I think people would be happier if they spent more time outside. You miss so much if you spend your life watching the world on a screen, or from behind a car window. That’s why I am a passionate advocate for cycling, and want to do all I can to help more women discover the joys of pedal power. Nothing beats it.
