Everyone needs a break at Christmas from all the eating, drinking and general merry making, which is why here at Cyclechic we like to get out on our bikes over the festive season. After all, most people take a stroll while the turkey’s cooking, or after Christmas lunch so that they can justify an extra helping of pudding when they get back.
This year, why not do something different. Slip on some cycling gloves, pop your helmet liner in, slide into your stylish all weather jacket, and jump in the saddle.
There really is nothing nicer than pedalling out on a crisp winter’s day, weaving down a quiet country lane, or seeing the deserted city streets in a whole new light. When you’re on foot you usually stick to the tried and trusted routes, which is always nice.
But with the aid of your two-wheeled steed you have the fun of finding new places, a pub you’ve always wanted to visit for example, with a roaring fire, mulled wine on the go, and free mince pies. And if it’s snowing, don’t let that put you off, just let a little air out of your tyres and channel your inner Scandinavian, you’ll be fine.
If you’re feeling particularly energetic, try looking out for cycling events in your area over the festive period. For those of you at a loose end in London on the 25th for example, The Dog and Bell Crew, part of Cyclists in Southwark are planning their 17th Christmas ride from Greenwich to Edgware Road.
But remember, you don’t need to knock yourself out. the key thing here is to feel the cold wind bringing a healthy glow to your cheeks, your legs loosening up, your lungs filling with fresh air, and to have fun.
Have a velo merry Christmas and a happy New Year from all of us here at Cyclechic Towers!
