Update 26/03/2020: Since writing this the country has gone into lockdown. Cycling is still important and we hope people who still have to commute to work can cycle safely instead of using pubic transport. We can go out for a cycle as our one form of exercise a day but please keep social distancing at the forefront of your mind. Don’t embark on any rides that are too ambitious and keep a 2m distance from others. Just stop and wait if people are coming your way on foot. And wash your hands and gloves when you get in (I find spraying antibac surface cleaner and then wiping with kitcehen roll works well) Stay safer everyone.
Any key works who want advice of cycling to work, don’t hesiate to give us a call 07908 631 050 or caz@cyclechic.co.uk
Cycling could play important role in helping us avoid public transport in the coming weeks whilst still making essential journeys. And it’s a great way to get out, get fresh air and exercise. Just ensure you keep at a safe distance from others and don’t socialise after your ride.
Here’s some tips for getting out on your bike.
1. Get your bike sorted
First of all, get your bike out of the shed or garage and do a quick check. A good way to check all the important bits is to do an M check (See diagram below). You check from front wheel to handlebars to pedals to saddle to back wheel. If you want more guidance, watch this little video from the guys over at Look Mum No Hands.
2. Road safety
If you feel nervous about cycling on the roads, swat up on your road safety. We love this video from Cycling UK. Key takeways are:
- Make yourself visible to other road users
- Make sure you can access your brakes quickly when you need to.
- Be constantly aware of what’s going on around you
- Cycle approx a meter from the kerb
- Give clear signals when turning or stopping
