Let’s hear it for The Observer, which this week ran a six-page cycling special in its Review section.
There was even a link to this very website, which is most appreciated.
But a slight moan. In the ‘me and my bike’ section, three of the five ‘celebrities’ interviewed about their love of cycling were male.
More disappointingly, of the two women interviewed, one was Kimberly Stewart who as daughter of Rod, presumably counts as a ‘celebrity’ on the scale of the men chosen – namely Alan Bennett, Boris Johnson and Alexei Sayle.
Kim’s claim to fame aside, we’re not knocking any woman who chooses to cycle. But unfortunately Kimberly also came across as pretty irresponsible and vacuous. ‘I don’t wear a helmet….I hate feeling restricted….careful goes out of the window when I’m in a hurry.’
It is not for us to preach to women about wearing helmets, but Kimberley might want to consider the great range available from cyclechic.co.uk’s online store, which would convert even the most fashion-conscious stylista.
