To continue our celebration of International Women’s day or shall we say week, here are two more women we would like to talk about…
Lili asked to meet us a couple of year ago with the exciting idea of making sexy and comfortable underwear for cyclists. She had been frustrated after a long search for a stylish cycle lingerie and decided to solve the problem herself by starting a company making cycle underwear.
She says: “I took up cycling to strengthen after a back injury, and became addicted, eventually using cycling as my preferred mode of travel. When I took up cycling I quickly discovered why so few women seemed to embrace it. Apart from the fear factor of riding crazy London streets it was terribly uncomfortable. I searched everywhere for a solution to my problem and I just didn’t want to wear those ugly cycle shorts! My chuff stung, My chaffinch ached and my lady garden was in sore need of a solution. I came up with the initial idea then found an independent fashion lingerie pattern maker. I sourced the fabrics in Leicester and Hertfordshire. The factory where they are made is in Carmarthen, Brecon Beacons, Wales. I am very happy that Made in Britain is part of my brand story.”
We contacted Georgia in 2010 when we saw her reflective vests. As she designed more and more products, we slowly integrated them in our range. Always stylish and always functional, they are exactly the sort of products we had in mind when we started Cyclechic and clearly customers think so too as they were our bestseller in the raingear category last year.
They say: “Georgia in Dublin is a mother and daughter duo who design fashionable rainwear for women (although they also design increasingly for men!). Their range of stylish multifunctional coats, jackets and accessories were designed with the casual cyclist in mind but are also aimed to suit women’s daily lifestyles whether they cycle or not. They won an iF International Design Award for design innovation and production quality in 2011 and a Brand New Award in Munich in 2011 for the GinD range. They were also voted Cycling Visionaries at Velocity in Vienna in 2013. They strive to marry elegant design with function and versatility to offer women garments that they can wear come hail, rain or shine.”
Stay tuned tomorrow for more succesful ladies!
