We thought we would just take a moment to salute the inspirational Laura Trott. Not only has she become Britain’s most successful female Olympian but she’s managed to do it with an awesome helmet-friendly hairstyle!
Here at Cyclechic the subject of ‘how to wear your hair under your helmet’ often comes up so we very pleased to see that the best female cyclist our country has ever produced has a very clear style statement on the matter.
Laura’s choice of the Double French Plait or Double Dutch Braid, as I have seen it called after some googling, is both practical and pretty and the perfect solution for long hair.
There’s something about the pulled-back plaits that means business in a way that regular ‘Heidi’ style plaits don’t. It’s a more modern look that says ‘my hair is still feminine but it’s out of my face so I can get on with shit’.
The standard ponytail or bun can be awkward under a helmet, unless you wear it very low, as it sticks out preventing the helmet from sitting securely. And if you have long hair, wearing it down under a helmet can be a total pain, especially on a windy day.
So if you fancy giving the double French plait or French braid, as the Americans say, a go, have a look at this video by Vlogger Lalastar.
I have to say my mind is still boggling at which bit goes over or under but I am sure as hell going to give it a go, as it’s got to be the most Cycle Chic hairstyle around this summer!
Thanks Laura!
