Our roving reporter, Jude Brosnan, checks out the new Fishtail trench coat from No such thing...
I spend a lot of my time cycling around to different meetings of varying levels of formality. A big chunk of that time is spent quickly changing in public toilets to try and make myself look respectable and hiding my scruffy cycling gear (and hair).
Most cycling jackets have a habit of making a smart outfit look scruffy but this one does quite the opposite and I can keep it on and look smart rather than having to stash it out of sight.
Trench jackets aren’t just for spies, 1930s news reporters and Sherlock Holmes. It is a perfect trans-seasonal garment that not only takes you through the seasons but throughout the day and into the night if you are going ‘out’ out.
What makes it a cycling jacket is that it has tonal reflective strips, zip up pockets, a dropped tail, hidden popper cuffs for warmth and additional ventilation. All these features are subtle so doesn’t make it an obvious cycling jacket. It camouflages perfectly from your bike into your work wardrobe.
Its versatility doesn’t stop there. It has detachable arms so can be worn as a waistcoat/ body-warmer for when the weather is mild. This feature aids ventilation and movement as the space under the arms is open.
The fabric is lightweight and comfortable recycled polyester so you can sleep easily knowing that you are helping save the world.
Style: Stylish fishtail trench
Wearable off a bike? Yes, it can pass as your smart jacket.
Waterproofness: It’s made of carefully chosen, ethical, new fabric technology that is breathable and waterproof.
Warmness: Like a blazer, not thick but windproof so will keep out the chills. The length and buttoned up collar keeps you that bit more covered while the hidden popper cuffs keep your wrists warm.
Visibility: Tonal reflective strips on cuffs, pockets and down the back
Is it easy to stash away? The woven fabric doesn’t seem to crease so can be folded up and will stay smart.
If you need me I’ll be cycling around channeling my inner Sherlock, finding out how some people don’t get helmet hair. HOW GUYS? HOW?
